Berkshire Hathaway 2025 Annual Shareholder Meeting
Not what we would typically be including as a podcast review, however, with the 2025 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholder Meeting being the last of Warren Buffett’s amazing career, we thought it was worthy of a review. We were lucky enough to attend the 2025 event and witness financial history in the making.
The key pieces of investment wisdom we took away from the meeting included:
- When investing, it’s amazing what you find when you keep reading and (so to speak) turning every page. If you keep turning every page, you can find some good things. No one is going to turn the pages for you; you need to do the work yourself.
- The life of investing activity is very uneven. It is the definition of non-linear. There are certainly times when you have to act fast and with conviction. You have to be patient, but equally you can’t be filled with self-doubt in this business; it simply won’t work.
- Part of investing is looking for what is wrong, or what is missing. Everyone is looking for what is right and ignoring where they need to be critical.
- The more sophisticated equity markets get over time, the more it becomes a ‘black swan’ type of event, which comes from left field to cause the big financial crashes.
- Check your emotions at the door when you invest.
The key pieces of life wisdom we took away from the meeting included:
- If you have a great work ethic, it is a great foundation to go a long way in life.
- In life, who you surround yourself with is enormously important. Choose smart friends and colleagues whom you admire.
- Your reputation and integrity are of the utmost importance. Doing what is right needs to be the guiding principle.
As a 94-year-old, Buffett said that he is still looking through the financial statements of ~50-60 of the Berkshire Hathaway companies every month. As the world now knows, he announced his intention to step down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway at the end of 2025. If you don’t have the time to watch the entire recording, then it’s worth just watching from 4hrs and 25mins onwards, when he announces the bombshell news. Being in the room, seeing it unfold live, there is no doubt it came as a shock to everyone. What followed was a fantastic, lengthy and emotional standing ovation for one of, if not the best, capital allocator the world has ever seen.
